Scaffolding hire costs explained

Many see the cost of scaffolding hire as an unnecessary expense and will try and find other options to cut costs, when in fact having a scaffold erected to help you access those areas at height safely is a pretty important expense.

When planning on a DIY project or arranging for a trade to perform external work to a property or building it is highly recommended not to cut corners and put yourself or workers at any risk of falling from height.

Scaffolds are used to create a safe and secure working platform at any height that is required and should only be erected by qualified scaffolders who have the knowledge and experience in putting up access solutions to suit your requirements.

Scaffolds should only be installed with the many different safety features that it provides.

The equipment that is used is always strong and robust and of the highest quality and manufactured to British standards, meaning it is usually the safest option available even if not the cheapest.

How much does scaffold cost?

We are repeatedly asked how much does it cost to hire scaffolding? But until we can understand your specific requirements we cannot provide an exact figure. Many aspects are involved when providing a quote and below is just some of the information we need to know to be able to price your project:

  • Location?
  • Access for our lorries and equipment?
  • How many sides of the building need scaffolding?
  • How high does the scaffold need to go?
  • Hire period?
  • Start date?

We may also need to pop out and visit the site for more complex scaffolds to ensure we have everything covered. You are also welcome to supply images of the area which can speed up the pricing process. However until we have these details it is extremely hard to provide an exact scaffolding hire cost, but our tables below will give you a rough indication of costs.

Helpful questions and answers

Included in all of our quotes is a 4 week hire period as standard and we are more than happy to negotiate the scaffolding hire period if you feel that 4 weeks is not going to be enough.

It is not a problem, if you think that your project will take longer than anticipated, please let us know straight away and we will provide you with our extra weekly scaffolding hire price once the agreed period has elapsed if we have not done so on our original quotation. If you go over the 4 weeks by a few days we do not usually charge for this.

Generally we charge a fixed percentage which we work out from the total amount of your original price. The percentage depends on the size of the original scaffolds and how many further weeks you feel you need to hire the scaffold from us. 2-10% of the original price is our standard weekly scaffolding hire rate after the 4-week period.

Yes, we can provide you with our scaffolding prices if you supply clear images of the area that you need access to.

Yes, this will be a separate price to any scaffolds you require, but we will be able to provide hire costs for you and include this within our quotation.

Yes, this is an additional cost and we will detail the fee within our quotation.

Please note that we have to apply for the highways licence for insurance purposes.

Most scaffolds are completely different, so we usually price basic access towers as a fixed price but other scaffolds for example, handrail edge protection jobs or scaffolds put up for new builds are easier to calculate with a metre rate due to the length of the structures. It is industry standard to price these types of jobs by the metre.

Unfortunately, this is not something we offer, we provide a full scaffolding hire, erect, and dismantle service.
