Project type: Scaffold for window repairs and painting.
Location: Jack Wills, North St, Chichester, PO19 1LX.
Client requirements: We were asked to provide a quotation to build an access scaffold structure, to a three-storey listed building in the centre of Chichester, so our client could repair the sash windows and paint them. Our price for this particular scaffold was £1580.00 which included a hire period of four weeks. Our quotation was accepted, and we booked this job in to go up the following week.
Obstacles and challenges we faced: We faced no challenges with this scaffold and had a large area to park our trucks and manoeuvre our materials. We were required to take extra care when putting this scaffold up because the building itself is historical and is grade two listed, so to ensure we did not damage the walls and its flint work, we added end caps to all of the tube that were required to touch the building.
What we did: We needed to provide access to all eight of the sash windows, that were on the front of this listed building that was rebuilt in 1807. We built a 10 metres long by 8 metres high scaffold structure that included 3 lifts that were fully boarded, and all working platforms were 5 boards wide. Although this scaffold did not need a pavement licence because it was on private land, we still added foam to the bottom standards as visitors would still be entering the shop.
All working lifts were double handrailed and had kicker boards installed. We also added a ladder gate to the second lift as a safety precaution. We covered the whole top of the structure with monarflex sheeting and also used the monarflex to create a roof covering over the top of the scaffold to ensure this area of the building was not exposed to the elements whilst the windows were painted.
Hire period: We hired the scaffold to our client for 4 weeks and they used the scaffold for the full 4 week hire period to complete their works.
