**Unfortunately, we no longer sell scaffolding tubes; however, you can buy scaffold poles from Scaffolding Supplies for Sale, which sells various tube lengths. Also based in West Sussex, they offer a delivery or collection service.**
The scaffold tube we have for sale is a type 4, made from galvanised steel that has been hot-dipped in zinc to protect the metal from rusting and corrosion, which helps increase the tube’s longevity.
Type 4 means our tube has a standard diameter of 48mm and an inner wall thickness of 4mm, regardless of length. They have been manufactured to British standard BS EN 39 and are of extremely high quality.
You can use scaffolding tubes to make the frames of various types of structures, which can include:
We have a variety of different sized galvanised steel scaffold tube available and these are measured in feet:
The external diameter of a standard scaffolding tube measures 48 millimetres. There are other diameters available, but this particular size is the only one used for scaffold purposes and is the only type we sell.
The wall thickness is the inner thickness of the tube and it measures 4mm.
Galvanised steel scaffold tubes are a heavy-duty solid material but are surprisingly lightweight to handle when lifting them. Below is the weight in kilograms of an individual tube:
This type of material is extremely strong and hardwearing and can take on very heavy loads. In tensile measurements the working load a steel tube can carry is around 79 kilonewton which is approximately 8 tonnes in weight.
The tubes we sell are made using galvanised steel, which has been coated in a layer of zinc to protect against rust and corrosion. The zinc acts like a wall of protection between the steel and moisture whilst being exposed to the elements.
If you are making any type of framework or structure using scaffold tube then you will need couplers and connectors to be able to put it together. Depending on what you are building the fittings needed can differ, as you have fittings that connect one tube to another at a right angle, others that can fix tubes together at any angle and some that fix the two ends of tubes together. There are also clamps that are specifically used for barriers and handrails which are connected using grub screws. Why not have a look at our fittings page to help you figure out exactly which type you require for your project and if you are still unsure please ask one of our team who would be happy to assist you.
Yes, when you purchase any of our new tubes they will be perfectly straight.
However on occasions used tube can bend but they do not have to be discarded as they can be straightened using a rolling machine.
If you are using scaffold tubes on a structure that is used regularly it is recommended you check them often just to be sure they are still straight, clear either end and free of any dents, splits, or cracks. And this is usually dependent on how much they are being used.
Yes, if you have the tools and time to do so, it can be quite easy to create any type of furniture or structure out of scaffold tube.
From the NASC guide the minimum requirement a scaffold tube should be:
