Specialists in temporary roof scaffolds

We are the go-to scaffolding company for temporary roof scaffolding across Sussex, Hampshire, and Surrey. From initial planning and design through to professional erection, we handle every aspect of your temporary roof (also known as a “tin hat”) project.

A temporary roof lets you keep your project moving, regardless of the British weather. Our systems deliver:

  • Reliable weather protection – against rain, snow, wind, and UV exposure
  • Improved safety – by creating a dry, stable working platform at height
  • Temperature control – helping maintain stable internal conditions when climate control is needed
  • Project continuity – work can continue on new builds, extensions, or maintenance projects without weather delays.

In addition to temporary roof scaffolds, we provide a range of other scaffolding services to access hard-to-reach areas. Contact us for a free, no obligation quotation.

Below are some helpful questions:

It really does depends on the type of works you are doing, if it involves removing a roof from a building or you have a new progressive new build project that needs to be kept watertight or even work that requires the climate to be controlled then we would recommend using a temporary roof scaffolding.

The temporary roof structure is made up of various scaffold parts and components, including galvanised steel tubes and fittings, and the pitch is made up of aluminium beams. After this, we use corrugated metal sheets, also known as CI sheets, for the roof covering, which are attached using roofing couplers designed to fix the sheets safely and securely without drilling holes. We will also use either shrink-wrapped plastic or monarflex sheeting around the entire structure’s external perimeter, which completely weatherproofs it.

There are a lot of options available when erecting temporary roofs however we like to use the trusted and traditional scaffolding tube method.

  1. We first erect the scaffold to the height of the roof ensuring it is stable and secure. This structure may be erected around 3 or 4 sides of a building depending on the size of the property.
  2. We then install the beams to span over the building to create the roof. After this and to provide extra strength and support to the corrugated iron sheets we will fix additional scaffold tubes vertically. At all times we ensure there is a sufficient pitch to allow any water to drain easily from the roof.
  3. The roof sheets are then installed and placed in an overlapped pattern and are secured in place by the roofing couplers (waffle clamps) at every end.
  4. We will then wrap all sides of the temporary framework with sheeting which may vary depending on the type of project being undertaken.

This all sounds amazingly simple however temporary roofs are one of the more complex and time-consuming structures we have to build.

Prior to erecting a temporary roof, we need to take into consideration the type of pitch and roof covering that is required as there are various structures available. The most common of all is the mono-pitched roof and this is a single sloping roof surface. Another example is the apex pitched roof and this is where it is constructed to have two sloping sides, and finally there is a multi-pitched covering where there are different multiple slopes.

A temporary roofing structure is one of the most expensive scaffolds our scaffolding in Chichester teams erect and dismantle, and although we are unable to give you an exact cost until we have more information on the property and the works being completed, we can advise you that costings can start from around £3000 and reach up to as high as £75,000 plus. However, this all depends on the size of the area we are covering. Obviously, a temporary roofing structure around a bungalow is going to be a lot cheaper than covering a large detached mansion.

Although it is expensive you must really take in to consideration that if you opted to not have a temporary tin hat and your property started leaking or your project was halted until the weather was more suitable then the potential costs for repairs and delays on the project and not to mention the stress of the building works taking a lot longer than originally anticipated will be a lot more expensive in the long run.

Shrink-wrapping is an exceptionally reliable method of encapsulating the temporary roof scaffolding as it has been designed to work effectively against strong winds and adverse weather. It has been created to let in natural light and it is also 100% recyclable. Once installed it offers a tight finish and a clean and tidy look.

Monarflex is a roll of specialised reinforced woven plastic sheeting that is attached to the scaffold using ties (bungee cords). This is a slightly cheaper solution than the shrink wrap but still offers exceptional protection.
