Project type: Access for 2 chimney stacks on the same property.
Location: King’s Avenue, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19.
Client requirements: This customer required a scaffold to be put up on the left-hand side of this domestic property, so they could access two chimney stacks on the roof for repairs and repointing. Our client was a builder who was sub-contracted to complete these works on behalf of Hyde Martlet the local housing association in Chichester. For this type of access, we charged £700, and this is because the scaffold needed to be four lifts high, and the top two lifts had to be, what is referred to in the scaffolding industry as being “punched up” off of the roof and this is a time-consuming part of the job.
Obstacles and challenges we faced: We found no issues with this scaffold whatsoever. The access was good, and the property was in a nice quiet road so we could easily park out the front. Access to the side of the property was also nice and easy and we had plenty of room to put up this scaffolding structure. Extra care had to be taken whilst our scaffolders erected the top of this chimney stack scaffold on the roof tiles, however none of them were damaged during the erecting and dismantling stages of this project.
What we did: First we erected a 13ft base out scaffold and then created the second lift just above the top floor windows. These 2 fully boarded platforms were used to give access to the upper levels. We then installed the 3rd lift on the roof which allowed access to the final top lift which was a hop up that was approx. 8ft long and 6 boards wide. This area gave enough room for the user to comfortably access both of the separate chimney stacks. As standard all lifts were kitted out with fall protection rails and toe boards. We had to take special care when placing our equipment on the tiled roof to partially take the weight of the top 2 platforms and so we laid scaffold boards on the roof tiles for the steel tubes to be placed on, this meant the tubes were not directly touching the roof itself.
Hire period: Our hire period for this scaffold was 4 weeks and our client used it for approximately 25 days.

Once the scaffold is no longer required you will need to contact us, and we will provide you with a dismantle date (which we will keep to) we will then arrive on the agreed date and remove all our equipment and may ask you to leave a review if you are happy to do so.
