Project type: Temporary roof scaffolding.
Location: Redvins Barn, Goodwood Estate, Halnaker, Chichester PO18 0QJ.
Client requirements: This Goodwood client required a free-standing temporary roof to be erected to provide coverage for a £1.2 million generator that is being used to turn waste in to renewable energy, and this will provide power to the Goodwood estate and all the events, festivals, and horse racing taking place over the next year. This is part of a £18 million programme. They required this covering whilst they built a permanent structure around the generator.
Obstacles and challenges we faced: No challenges arose, but we were required to take great care to ensure the generator was not damaged at all by our scaffolding tubes and boards whilst our scaffolders were putting up this weather protecting temporary roof scaffold covering.
What we did: .We first erected a kicker lift which we pinched tied off steels using double couplers which the generator was sat on to ensure it did not touch the ground. Then we built the scaffolding framework around all four sides of the machinery. After this we carefully built over the generator using aluminium scaffold beams to create the roof area which we attached the corrugated iron sheets to. We fixed the 10ft CI sheets to the beams using special roof couplers rather than drilling holes into the sheeting as this could let water in. This tin hat was approximately 18m long, 6m wide and 5m high at the front of the roof and then 4m high at the back. Once the structure was created and the roof was added we covered the external scaffolding framework with monarflex sheeting which we attached to the tube using bungee cords. This sheeting helped to keep the generator protected from all weather conditions.
Hire period: The hire period for this project was 6 weeks, and this was because they were building their own structure to protect the generator. Once the temporary roof was finished with and had been dismantled, we were then required to come back at a later date to erect a birdcage scaffold which you can view on our birdcages page to give access once more to the generator.
If you would like a scaffolding erected that is similar to the above then our process is very simple, all you need to do is contact us via telephone, email or the fastest way is to fill out our online quote form where you will provide the information, we need to be able to provide a quote. If we do not require any additional information, we will then supply you with a quotation which will include an agreed hire period.
Once you accept our quotation, we will book you in for the date requested. On the day of erection our scaffolders will arrive to put up the structure safely also leaving ladder access once completed. You are then ready to complete your works or project. Once the scaffold is no longer required you will need to contact us, and we will provide you with a dismantle date (which we will keep to) we will then arrive on the agreed date and remove all our equipment and may ask you to leave a review if you are happy to do so.
