Single storey platform around a new build extension to allow for a new roof to be installed. Cost £640

Roofing access on a newly built house extension in Wittering, PO20
Base lift platform for roofing access, Shoreside Walk, PO20
Single storey scaffold for roofing, West Sussex

Project type: Single-storey scaffolding for the installation of a new roof.

Location: Shoreside Walk, East Wittering, PO20.

Client requirements: We provided a quotation to this customer for scaffolding to go around 3 sides of a single-story extension to install the roof. Our client required the scaffolding structure for 12 weeks which we included within our price of £640.00.

Obstacles and challenges we faced: No issues arose when erecting this structure around the extension. We constructed a simple base-out scaffolding and had easy access to the property when building the structure. We did have to work down a small alleyway, but there was plenty of room for our scaffolders to manoeuvre themselves and the equipment.

What we did: This project required a 3-sided base-lift scaffolding wrapping around a newly built single-story extension. We were required to erect 4.0 metres in length on one side and then another 6.0 metres long on the 2nd side; both single lift working platforms were 6 boards wide. The 3rd and final side of the scaffolding spanned along the entire length of 1 side of the property and measured approximately 19.0 metres long. This access platform was slightly thinner than the other sides at only 3 boards wide. The framework was approximately 2.0 to 2.3 metres high and featured double safety handrails around the external perimeter and toe boards connected to the standard (upright) tubes using single couplers. On all sides our team used sole boards and base plates for the upright tube and bracing to sit but on the shortest elevation this was even more of a necessity to prevent damage to the wooden floor. We provided a steel ladder at one end of the structure to enable full access to the working platforms.

Hire period: The scaffolding was rented to this client for a total of 12 weeks. After the hire period had ended, we returned to dismantle the framework and take it away.
