Client requirements: This domestic property owner called our scaffolding firm as he needed a chimney scaffold erecting to paint the stack on his chalet bungalow. The chimney itself was situated in the centre of their chalet style bungalow. This was an extremely straight forward scaffold and a very small job for our company, so we charged our minimum call out fee of £300 to supply, erect and dismantle this structure. We priced this scaffold on the time our lads would spend putting the tower up rather than on a meter rate, and this was purely because of its size.
Obstacles and challenges we faced: This was a very straight forward job as the scaffolding was built from the first floor up as there was a solid flat roof for us to work on. Access to the property was also fine and so all in all no issues or obstacle arose when we were putting this chimney scaffold up.
What we did: We used a ladder to reach the roof of the 1st floor level, and here we had a large, sturdy flat roof where we were able build the scaffolding up and around 3 three sides of the chimney breast. The scaffold tower we erected was only 13ft (just under 4.0 metres) wide and two scaffolding lifts high. The first lift we erected was a small area to allow the client to work on the lower section of the chimney breast, and this lift was boarded out using 8ft boards with double handrails to prevent falls. The second lift which was put up around 3 sides of the chimney stack was four boards wide and was fitted out with 8ft scaffold boards down each side as it was such a small area to work around, we then lapped 13ft boards over the 8ft’s to create the working platform at the front of the chimney. We also installed double guard rails and toe boards around the perimeter of the working platform. A ladder was also attached from the floor, up to the top working lift to give our customer easy access. We charged our client £300 for this as it only took our experienced scaffolders approximately 1.5 hours to erect and on return it took approx. 35 minutes to dismantle this scaffolding structure.
Hire period: We included four weeks hire within our quotation for this scaffold and our client used the full four weeks that they were given.

Once you accept our quotation, we will book you in for the date requested. On the day of erection our scaffolders will arrive to put up the structure safely also leaving ladder access once completed. You are then ready to complete your works or project. Once the scaffold is no longer required you will need to contact us, and we will provide you with a dismantle date (which we will keep to) we will then arrive on the agreed date and remove all our equipment and may ask you to leave a review if you are happy to do so.
