Scaffolding on 2 elevations of this large property in Chichester town centre to provide safe access for decorating purposes

.

Project type: Painting and decorating scaffold.

Location: Stocklund House, East Street, Chichester, PO19 1JE.

Client requirements: We were asked to provide a commercial scaffolding quotation for access on two sides of Stocklund house in East Street, Chichester so that the whole building could be painted. We quoted this client a price that included a 4-week rental period.

Obstacles and challenges: This building was on the corner of East Street and St. Johns Street, which are both busy shopping areas in Chichester. So our scaffolders had to be extra vigilant when erecting and dismantling this structure because pedestrians and vehicles continually pass through both roads.

What we did:

  • Firstly we applied for a pavement licence on behalf of the customer as the council requires £10 million public liability insurance to do this
  • Two elevations of this large building needed scaffolding; both were identical in size.
  • Each side measured approximately 20 metres in length and 10 metres high
  • Both sides featured 5 scaffolding lifts; however, only 4 were to be used as working platforms.
  • Each lift was 5 scaffold boards wide.
  • The scaffolding on the left-hand side in St. Johns Street featured an 8-metre beam section because we needed to keep the car park clear and also the dropped kerb.
  • We installed double handrails and toe boards on every working lift.
  • Ladder gates were fixed where needed throughout this structure.
  • Ladders were also fixed on every lift of the framework.
  • Hi-visibility foam was fitted around all upright tubes at ground level to protect passers-by.
  • Yellow tredda plates were used on the ground for the base plates to sit on, which is another health and safety feature to warn pedestrians.
  • Once our customer has completed their decoration works, we will promptly return to dismantle the structure safely,

Hire period: We provided this extensive scaffolding structure to our customer with a 4-week hire period, which was also the same time in which the pavement licence was valid. Any longer than this would require us to apply to the council for an extension to the pavement permit.

It’s very easy to get a quote from us:

We will supply you with a quotation, including an agreed hire period if we do not require additional information.

Once you accept our quotation, we will book you for the requested date. On the day of erection, our team will arrive to put up the structure safely, leaving ladder access once completed. You are then ready to complete your work or project. Once the scaffold is no longer required, you will need to contact us, and we will provide you with a dismantle date (which we will keep to). We will then arrive on the agreed date and remove all our equipment and may ask you to leave a review if you are happy to do so.
