Project type: Internal birdcage scaffolding.
Location: Rolls Royce, The Drive, Chichester, PO18 0SH.
Client requirements: A quotation was requested for an internal birdcage scaffold within a staircase so that new light fittings and plastering work to the ceiling could occur. This was for a well-known high-end car manufacturer in Chichester. We quoted our client £850.00 with a short hire period of 1 week.
Obstacles and challenges we faced: This scaffold was erected within a small area, so our scaffolders were required to be extra careful when handling our equipment because the staircase was custom made with costly materials. Our scaffolders, as always, took great care when putting up and dismantling this internal scaffolding structure.
What we did: The whole internal birdcage measured approximately 18ft long by 1.2m wide and was 3.0 metres high, with only one working platform at the very top of the scaffolding framework. This working area was a total of 11 scaffold boards wide. It had a yellow safety ladder gate installed and a tiny section of double handrail and toe-boards fixed at one end because there was a potential risk of falling.
Our highly experienced scaffolding erectors were required to use 8ft transoms to double butt (touch) the walls to prevent the structure from moving. They also had to ensure no damage was made, so they added yellow end caps to the tubes that rested against any part of the walls. Using the 8ft transoms to butt tight against both walls was done so that no bracing was required, and people could walk safely underneath the structure without any obstacles blocking their way.
This structure gave our client plenty of room to re-plaster the ceiling and change the light fittings with ease.
Hire period: This was up for only a short rental period of one week; our client did not require any extra time for their work in the stairwell. It was also imperative that the scaffolding be removed as soon as they had finished with it.
