5-lift high town centre scaffolding for maintenance and repair works on a store in East Street, Chichester. 20 weeks hire

Project type: Scaffold for repairs and maintenance work.

Location:  89-91 East Street, Chichester, PO19.

Client requirements: We were asked to provide a quotation to supply scaffolding to the façade of this large city centre building that used to be the Topman store but has since closed down. Our client wanted to be able to perform repair works to the frontage plus they also needed access to the flat roof at the top of the building so that they could replace lead which had been stolen. We quoted our client for a 5-lift high scaffolding with a 20-week rental period included.

Obstacles and challenges we faced: No issues were faced with this scaffolding; however, this store was on a pedestrianised street, so we were given permission to drive our vehicle to the front of the shop so that we could easily access our materials when erecting the scaffold. Extra care was taken when handling our equipment during the undertaking of this project because of the close vicinity of pedestrians. Additional safety measures were adhered to, but on this occasion no pavement licence was required because our client supplied their own hoarding closing off the area to the public.

What we did: This access scaffolding was required to cover the whole front of the shop for our client to perform their repair works. We erected a 16.0m wide by 11.0m high scaffolding which was 5 lifts in total, 4 of the lifts were fully boarded and they were all 5 scaffold boards wide. This scaffolding required a toal of 18 standards (9 inside uprights and 9 outside) for the framework.

The first 3 working platforms were installed with double handrails, toe boards and a yellow safety ladder gate. The very top lift that was used to access the flat roof area had triple guardrails installed around the perimeter for additional fall prevention. Full ladder access was installed throughout the structure.

Hire period: The hire period for this scaffold was 20 weeks due to the large repair works that needed to be performed.
