Access for window repairs, Ravenna Point, Terminus Road, Chichester, PO19

Project type: Scaffold to access windows.

Location: Ravenna Point, Terminus Road, Chichester, PO19.

Client requirements: This customer asked us to provide a scaffolding quotation for access to some windows on a small section of a large industrial unit in the centre of Chichester that was being used to store web servers. They required the scaffold as they could not reach the windows safely from a ladder or by other means. We charged this client £590 for this simple scaffold structure that was nearly 40ft long which was needed at the rear of the warehouse unit. Our price included a hire period of 28 days.

Obstacles and challenges we faced: Access was good, and we were not faced with any issues when erecting this scaffolding. The only minor requirement was that we had to keep the fire exit door clear of obstructions for health and safety reasons. No pavement licence was needed for this scaffold as it was put up on private land.

What we did: We were required to build this scaffolding so that our client had complete access to the windows on the back section of this warehouse unit. The scaffold was approximately 12 metres long with a working height of just under 16 foot. This scaffolding consisted of 8 sets of inside and outside standards (upright tube) and approx. 3 sets of 13ft scaffold boards which made up the top working platform. Our guys quickly and safely put up the first lift of this scaffold, which did not need to be boarded out as it was not going to be used as a working platform. This lift was made a little taller than usual to ensure the fire exit door was kept clear. Our scaffolders then erected the second lift that was placed at the bottom of the windows so our client could easily reach them. This top access platform was five boards wide and was installed with double handrails and toe boards around the perimeter, we also provided ladder access to the left-hand side of the top boarded platform.

Hire period: We priced this scaffold with 28 days hire as standard and our client took advantage of the hire period and used it for nearly the full 28 days.
